Learning shapes through art: Snow man painting

Snow man - one of Aadya's all time favorite

Aadya is very facinated about the snow man. And she loves to draw snow man. This one is again a  picture made to learn the shapes using drawing, which was done after the caterpillar house craft.

Aadya joined Pebble Creek Montessori High School when she was just 2.5 years.
Being associated with the montessori school, Aadya had her learning through activites. It was extremely easy for her to learn the shapes through the art and craft work. And there wasn't a single day she left school without coloring or painting. Tracing her hands on the paper was one of the favorite. She developed the love for coloring there. And snow man was one of her favorite.

Shapes included in the snow man painting was:
Circle: face, body
Square and rectangle: hat
Triangle: carrot nose

I take this post to thank Aadya's teachers at Pebble Creek Montessori High School for getting her basic studies properly done. All that she is now is because her basic got in right place. :)

Thank you!

Circus Elephant - tracing and painting

Circus Elephant

We took Aadya for a circus show when she was little more than two years. Because Aadya loved animals we thought she would like the plays which had animals in it. It was only once that we took her for circus. In our childhood, I remember going for circus shows more than movies. Those days we used to enthusiastically watch the elephants standing on two legs or balancing themselves on the beach balls. The wild animals like a tiger or lion behaving to mans alarm was shocking! Never did we think whats going on these poor animals thoughts then.

But Aadya had a different feeling altogether after watching the animals perform.
She felt extremely sorry for the animals going through unnecessary pain and suffering when these wild animals were trained and forced to perform. She liked to spend more time outside with the animals than watch the play inside.

Below is one of the picture we took after the show that day; Aadya acting like a horse :)

Aadya liked the picture from one of her coloring book. So she traced and painted the elephant on the beach ball.

Paper cutting caterpillar house

One of the first craft Aadya made.. This is a bit older one - made when she was at pre-school. Of course this craft is made with our help in tracing and cutting.
Aadya love this piece of craft - a caterpillar house and we had framed it for a while in her room.

Caterpillar house was made to teach her the shapes.
Circle shapes for face, windows and antennae
Oval shape for the house
Rectangle shape for the door

Let me know if you need the template of this craft or a step by step instruction to make a similar caterpillar house...
